LG and Meta collaborate to develop a high-end mixed reality headset.

LG and Meta, two technology giants, have recently announced a strategic partnership in the field of virtual and augmented reality. This collaboration promises to give birth to an XR (mixed) headset that could revolutionize the user experience in the virtual reality domain.

The partnership was formalized on February 28 during a meeting between Meta's founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and LG's executives, William Cho (CEO) and Park Hyoung-sei (President of the Home Entertainment subsidiary). According to the joint press release, the two companies will combine their strengths in products, content, services, and platforms, thus paving the way for new opportunities in virtual and augmented reality.

LG highlights its Smart TV ecosystem, providing Meta with high-quality content and services to enhance the user experience of the XR headset. This alliance could also be seen as a response to Apple, particularly in the field of film and series viewing, a major usage of the Apple Vision Pro.

Although details about the tangible hardware of this collaboration are still unclear, speculation is rife that this partnership could give rise to the Quest Pro 2. Meta has already established successful partnerships in the past, notably with Samsung to create the Gear VR and with Xiaomi to produce the Oculus Go.

The Quest Pro 2, positioned in the high-end segment, will need to surpass its predecessor, the Quest Pro, whose launch was somewhat lackluster. By integrating features such as eye tracking and facial movement tracking, as well as Codec Avatars, Meta hopes to offer an unparalleled immersive experience to users.

Furthermore, Meta's capabilities in generative artificial intelligence could also be leveraged in the development of the Quest Pro 2. This collaboration thus opens the door to new innovations and an even more immersive user experience in the field of virtual and augmented reality.

Thus, the alliance between LG and Meta promises to push the boundaries of virtual and augmented reality, offering users a unique and immersive experience supported by cutting-edge technologies and high-quality content.
